I use avg antivirus with avg antispyware, also superantispyware, the last mentioned i would highly recommend, and i've never had any trouble whilst using those.
Also, if you dont already use it, i would recommend Mozilla Firefox as your internet browser,it is reported to be up to ten times more secure/safer than internet explorer.

I personally use Eset Nod32 Antivirus which is not free but is the best protection i have come across, unlike others it is not a memory hogger and does not slow your pc down at all, never had any problems with it.

I use Avast at home and AVG at work. Both seem good to me.
