Grand National Winner Mon Mome Continues Preparation For 2010 Race This Weekend
Tuesday 12 January 2010 at 15:41
Connections of 2009 Grand National winner Mon Mome will be hoping the weather improves before the weekend so as they can run the ten-year-old gelding in the £70,000 totesport.com classic chase at Warwick on Saturday.
Venetia Hoping For Thaw
Mon Mome’s trainer Venetia Williams will be watching the weather forecast for the Warwick area to allow her 100/1 winner of the 2009 Grand National to get his third run of the season under his belt.
Mon Mome started to the 09/10 when pulling up in the Hennessy but ran much better when finishing third over hurdles at Cheltenham in December.
Classy Field Set To Challenge Grand National Winner
If racing does go ahead, Mon Mome will have a tough task to deal with the proposed field at Warwick which could include a number of other 2010 Grand National prospects including Topham Chase winner Irish Raptor, former Welsh National winner L’Aventure and the Paul Nicholls trained Cornish Sett.
Also entered on Saturday are former Cheltenham Festival winner Nenuphar Collonges and classy handicapper Knowhere.
Previous Form At Warwick Should Ensure Ideal Aintree Prep
Mon Mome finished second in the 2007 Totesport.com Classic Chase so a decent performance looks possible again this year. A good run here will serve as an ideal preparation for his defence of the Grand National crown as he attempts to be the first horse to win the race in back to back years since 1974.
