Cheltenham Gold Cup Odds 2009 Headed By Kauto Star
Thursday 12 March 2009 at 11:00
This Friday sees the showpiece event of the Cheltenham Festival take place, the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Favourite Kauto Star will be bidding to do the unthinkable and regain his Gold Cup crown, having lost it to stablemate Denman last year.
Kauto Star To Regain His Crown
Kauto Star is the 2/1 favourite with Stan James and William Hill to win the 2009 Cheltenham Gold Cup. It is no surprise he is favourite, he won the race in 2007 and then finished second behind the impressive Denman last year. He has been given a lighter campaign this year with this race in mind and he is sure to run a good race.
Paul Nicholls Has Very Strong Team
The second and third favourites are very closely matched and like the favourite, they come from the Paul Nicholls stable. Neptune Collonges is 11/2 with Bet365 having finished third last year whilst last year’s winner, Denman, is 6/1 with SkyBet and Paddy Power. You would not normally get that sort of price on last year’s winner but Denman has had problems and is yet to prove he is back to his best.
Best Each Way Shots
Madison Du Berlais has looked an improver this year and is David Pipe’s best hope at 9/1 with Bet365 and Paddy Power whilst Jonjo O’Neill has a very strong hand with 2007 runner up Exotic Dancer (10/1 with Bet365 and Coral) and Albertas Run, a Cheltenham specialist, who is 16/1 with Totesport and Stan James.
Writing The Headlines
Paddy Power are betting on the headline in the Racing Post on Friday. They make Gold Star the favourite at 4/1 whilst Golden Era is 6/1 with Paddy Power and Star Prize and Gold Rush are both 8/1 with Paddy Power.
