Mickey Rourke Favourite In Oscars Best Actor Odds After BAFTA Win
Friday 13 February 2009 at 11:21
Mickey Rourke has been backed again to win the Oscars Best Actor award having added the BAFTA for best actor to his Golden Globe for the same category.
Could Wrestlemania Ruin Rourkes Oscar Hopes£
Rourke is now the hot favourite at 8/13 with Bet365 and Boylesports and it is no surprise with the veteran having already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA. So popular is his character Randy The Ram Robinson that it has been reported that he could even fight at Wrestlemania. That might not go down to well with the Academy however, so there may be value in looking elsewhere for a bet.
Sean Penn Looking A Good Bet
We believe that there is a great bet to be had in backing Sean Penn for his performance in Milk. Penn is 2/1 with Stan James and William Hill to win the Oscar having put in a great performance as Harvey Milk, a gay politician and activist. Penn had been threatening to become favourite in this market but after Rourke won his BAFTA Penn drifted back out. We think they will go for the classier performance from Penn and that could make it a profitable night for those taking the 2/1.
The Best Of The Rest
There is a gap back to Frank Langella who played Richard Nixon in the film Nixon/Frost, he can be backed at 10/1 with Bet365 and Paddy Power. Brad Pitt put in a great performance in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button but the bookies dont think he will be picking up an Oscar, he is 33/1 with SkyBet and Coral. He still seems to have more of a chance than Richard Jenkins who is nominated for his performance in The Reader, Jenkins is the complete outsider at 80/1 with Bet365.
Other Interesting Oscars Betting Opportunities
The Oscars Best Actor category may provide one of the best Oscars bets of the night but there are some other great bets out there. Oscars Best Film award is likely to go to Slumdog Millionaire which is 1/6 with Boylesports whilst Kate Winslet is very popular in the Oscars Best Actress category, she can be backed at 4/6 with VC Bet. The most certain winner it seems is Heath Ledger who is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight and he is as short as 1/100 with Paddy Power!
