Guus Hiddink Hot Favourite In Next Chelsea Manager Betting Odds As Phil Scolari Is Sacked
Monday 09 February 2009 at 16:57
Phil Scolari has sensationally been sacked as manager of Chelsea after less than a season in charge. Poor recent results that have seen the club slide down to fourth position in the Premiership, having been pre season favourites, have been cited as the reason why.
Guus Hiddink Well Known To Abramovich
Guus Hiddink is the bookies choice to take over at Stamford Bridge as the Next Chelsea Manager, he is the odds on favourite at 4/6 with SkyBet. His odds have already drifted with SkyBet even though the market has only been open for a short time that is due to support for the second favourite. Hiddink does have the Russian connection with owner Roman Abramovich, it has been rumoured that Abramovich pays Hiddink’s wages as Russia coach.
Grant Well Backed For Stamford Bridge Return
The second favourite for the job is the favourite in the Next Portsmouth Manager betting, Avram Grant. Grant was initially priced up at 9/2 with SkyBet but they quickly shortened his odds to 9/4. It is very possible his odds will continue to be backed so if you fancy Grant get on quickly. It would be a massive climb down for Chelsea owner Abramovich who sacked Grant at the end of last season after he reached the Champions League final and finishes runners up in the league.
Several Managers On The Same Odds
There are four managers on 8/1 with SkyBet, one of which would be a very popular choice. Gianfranco Zola is tied with Frank Rijkaard, Roberto Mancini and Sven Goran Eriksson. Zola is currently doing a great job at West Ham and is a Chelsea legend from his playing days. Frank Rijkaard has been out of work since leaving Barcelona and Roberto Mancini was linked with the Chelsea job in the summer but failed to get the job then, will he be more successful now£
Eriksson Backed To Return To England
Eriksson is the current Mexico manager but it looks as though he is on the shortlist at Stamford Bridge, he was quickly backed in to 8/1 with SkyBet when the betting on Next Chelsea Manager began. To see who else is being linked with the job visit the SkyBet website, you will find the market under Football, Speciality Markets and Manager Specials.
