Hallelujah Will Be Christmas Number One But Which Version
Friday 19 December 2008 at 11:20
We know that Hallelujah is going to be the Christmas Number 1 this week but there is increasing uncertainty about which version will be number one. The song was originally sung by Leonard Cohen and has since been covered by Jeff Buckley and more recently X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.
Alexandra Burke Still Long Odds On
Alexandra Burke had been 1/200 yesterday to grab the Christmas Number 1 but although still looking pretty certain, she has drifted out to 1/80 with Stan James. The bookies are so sure in fact that Alexandra Burke will go straight to number one that they are betting on the Christmas Number 1 without her in it!
Jeff Buckley Favourite Without Alexandra
Favourite without Alexandra Burke is Jeff Buckley, with the same song Hallelujah. He is 1/8 with Paddy Power or he can be backed at 33/1 with Stan James to defeat Alexandra Burke. History would be made if the same song is number one and number two in the charts at the same time.
Hallelujah Tricast Is 4/1
It could however, be a hat trick for Hallelujah. With three versions being heavily downloaded this week Paddy Power make it a 4/1 chance that Hallelujah is numbers one, two and three, in any order. This looks a very interesting and possibly profitable bet.
Terry Wogan And Peter Kay Amongst Other Possibles
Other names doing the rounds for Christmas Number 1 include Terry Wogan and Aled Jones who are 10/1 with Stan James, Leona Lewis who is also 10/1 with Stan James and Peter Kay who is 14/1 with Stan James.
