England V Germany Team News And Betting Odds
Wednesday 19 November 2008 at 11:48
England take on Germany in a ‘friendly’ match and Germany are the favourites to gain a home win at 6/5 with SkyBet and Paddy Power whilst England are 13/5 with Bet365 and Stan James. The draw is 23/10 with Ladbrokes and Totesport.
England Team News
England have suffered plenty of withdrawals from the squad and are missing players such as Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott. John Terry will skipper the side and could be joined in defence by either Matthew Upson or Joleon Lescott. Glen Johnson or Micah Richards are likely to start at right back and Wayne Bridge should start on the left. Ashley Young or Stewart Downing should get the nod to play left wing with Shaun Wright Phillips likely to come in for Walcott on the right. Gareth Barry and Michael Carrick could play in the centre of midfield with Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe the two strikers.
Germany Team News
England are not the only side with injury problems. Up to seven usual first teamers will be missing so uncapped Marvin Compper, Tobias Weis and Marcel Schafer have all been called up. One player everyone is familiar with is striker Miroslav Klose and he will get the nod up front with Patrick Helmes, the in form Bayern Leverkusen striker, playing just off the big man.
England v Germany Betting Odds
Many international friendlies end up in a draw and the 23/10 with Ladbrokes and Totesport looks worth a bet. Of the correct scores 2-2 is tempting at 16/1 with Stan James but the bet just has to be 1-1 at 11/2 with Bet365 and Coral.
If you are backing England players to score first you are going to want to look at Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent who are 9/1 with Coral and 9/1 with Blue Square respectively. Bent may be slightly preferred of the two due to his current form. The captin has a funny habit of scoring in friendly matches and that points towards John Terry scoring. He is 28/1 with Paddy Power to score the first goal and 10/1 with Paddy Power to score anytime.
If you are looking to back a German to score first then Miroslav Klose is the favourite at 6/1 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes whilst Patrick Helmes, who should partner him upfront, is 8/1 with Ladbrokes. Germany’s top scorer at Euro 2008 was Lukas Podolski and he is 7/1 with Paddy Power to score first, 5/2 with William Hill to score anytime.
