Ryder Cup Betting - USA Backed To Make Most Of Home Advantage
Monday 15 September 2008 at 14:56
Europe may have won five out of the last six Ryder Cup contests but the USA have a 4-3 lead when playing on home soil since continental Europe took over from GB and Ireland as Americas opposition in 1979.
This could go some way to explaining the recent gamble on the USA team which now sees them as short as 5/4 with both Coral and Ladbrokes. Europe are 21/20 with Paddy Power, the only odds against quote from the bookies and the Tie is 12/1 with SkyBet.
Europe Narrow Favourites To Take Early Lead
The greater amount of Ryder Cup experience in the European team is presumably the reason behind the bookmakers decision to make Europe favourites to be in front after Day One of the Ryder Cup.
Friday will open with four matches of Fourballs in the morning and four matches of Foursomes in the afternoon.
Europe are a best price of Evens with Paddy Power to be in the lead after the opening days exchanges and USA are 8/5 with Blue Square. An opening day Tie is priced at 11/2 with 888Sport and Blue Square.
Double Result Could Prove A Good Bet
William Hill have come up with a number of interesting markets on the Ryder Cup including the Half Time/Full Time bet. They have priced up all the possible outcomes of the score after the doubles and then again after the singles.
With Europe looking to have an edge in the team play perhaps combining some results with them in front at halfway would be a good ploy. For example: Europe to be in front at half time and USA at full time is 6/1 and Europe/Draw is 22/1.
Those fancying a comprehensive win for either side can back Europe/Europe at 13/8 or USA/USA at 9/4. All prices are currently available with William Hill.
