Duke Of Marmalade Backed In King George Betting As Soldier Of Fortune Ruled Out
Monday 07 July 2008 at 11:31 Aidan O Brien, who won Saturday’s Coral Eclipse with Mount Nelson, has confirmed that he will be represented in the King George by Duke Of Marmalade and Macarthur. Soldier Of Fortune, who was amongst the favourites for the race, will be aimed at an autumn campaign.
Duke Of Marmalade Odds On In Places
Duke Of Marmalade is even money with Stan James and Coral having been around the 6/4 mark last week. Macarthur is now 14/1 with William Hill. Aidan O’Brien was quoted in the Racing Post as saying:
Soldier Of Fortune probably wont run in the King George. We are looking at keeping for an autumn campaign instead. Duke Of Marmalade and Macarthur are the two we have in mind for Ascot.
Form Boost For The Duke
With Phoenix Tower and Pipedreamer finishing a close second and third in the Coral Eclipse the claims of Duke Of Marmalade in the King George have been given a boost. Duke Of Marmalade beat the pair by four lengths in the Prince Of Wales at Royal Ascot which proves the high class of his form.
Youmzain Bids To Go One Better
Mick Channon’s Youmzain finished second in the race last year against Aidan O’Brien trained Dylan Thomas and then finished second behind the same horse in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomph at Longchamp. He again finished second behind an Aidan O’Brien horse in a group one when runner up in the Coronation Stakes behind Soldier Of Fortune. Form was reversed in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last month when Youmzain won his first group one in two years. Youmzain is 4/1 with Bet365 and Ladbrokes to win the King George.
Stoute Has Options
Sir Michael Stoute will need to decide his best option between Derby runner up Tartan Bearer and Gordon Stakes winner Ask. Both would have decent claims and are 12/1 with SkyBet and Coral and 12/1 with Paddy Power and Stan James respectively.
