Next Manchester City Manager Betting Available After Eriksson Departure
Monday 02 June 2008 at 12:10
Sven-Goran Eriksson this morning left Manchester City by mutual consent. Bookmakers have been quick to price up a Next Man City Manager market with Mark Hughes an early odds on favourite.
The Axe Finally Falls
Speculation about Eriksson’s future has been rife following a poor second half to Manchester City’s Premiership season and following months of talk the former England manager has finally left his post. The final nail in the coffin it seems was Middlesbrough’s 8-1 hammering of City on the final day of the season.
Mark Hughes The Favourite
The latest name to be strongly linked with the job is Mark Hughes. He is as short as 8/15 with SkyBet. Hughes had been recently linked with the Chelsea job but it now seems he is destined for Manchester City.
Blackburn have finished comfortably ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League for the last few years so many would see it as a step back but the draw of a big transfer budget might be too much for Hughes to resist. Reports are suggesting that he has already been given permission to speak to Manchester City.
Other Interesting Names In The Running
Other names amongst the favourites are Frank Rijkaard, a 14/1 shot with SkyBet, but he is the favourite to land the Chelsea job. Luiz Felipe Scolari has been linked with the job for a while and he is 14/1 with SkyBet also.
The Bigger The Name The Better
It is likely City will go for a big name manager so the likes of Sam Allardyce at 14/1 don’t make too much appeal but one name at a bigger price that sticks out is Didier Deschamps at 20/1 who has been linked with many jobs over the past year and a young manager may suit City as they will be looking for a long term solution following the one year stint put in by departing boss Eriksson.
