Tiger Boosted Ahead Of PGA Championship
Monday 06 August 2007 at 11:25
Tiger Woods will stride into this week's US PGA Championship with the perfect mindset, after dominating the Word Golf Classic-Bridgestone Invitational.
With a salvo of birdies Woods hit eight under par to win $1.35 million (£660,690), as well as taking a seriously valuable boost in confidence ahead of play on Thursday.
During a televised news conference after the event in Ohio yesterday he said: "I made some nice strides and I feel very good going into next week.
"I feel like I'm in better shape heading into this one than going into the last major."
The win means Woods has now won 14 times in 25 starts in World Golf Championship events.
His surge in confidence will offset doubts about his suitability for Southern Hills in Oklahoma, where the PGA Championship will be held.
The site, previously the setting for the US Open, demands exceptional driving, which is said to be one of Woods' few weaknesses.
However, the 31-year-old's recent victory is likely to prompt a market rush on him so the odds of 12/5 with Stan James could come in even more - so bets today are still attractive.
