Martinez Looks For Back-up Keeper To Solidify Swansea
Tuesday 14 August 2007 at 17:45 League One hopes for Swansea will be riding higher from today after manager Roberto Martinez announced plans to sign a goalkeeper this week in order to back up experienced Dorus De Vries.
Martinez said: "We're looking to bring someone in, maybe in the next few days."
The move will allay fans' fears that the team would have to rely on youngster Callum Hawthorne should De Vries get injured, after he was promoted to the senior team, but Martinez is showing that he wants to pay for experience to insure his club against sudden misfortune.
"Callum has done really well and he's one we're looking at for the future, but it wouldn't be good for him to be on the bench just now," Martinez added.
The move will calm the nerves of supporters who grew worried after last season's first choice keeper Willy Gueret left the club earlier this month for Milton Keynes Dons.
Following that, Swansea had considered bringing in Liverpool's third-choice keeper David Martin on loan, although that move failed.
