Swindon Looks To Shore Up Lofty League Position With Buys
Monday 20 August 2007 at 17:43 Odds on a Swindon win at Saturday's League One Derby at Cheltenham Town could come in if Paul Sturrock manages to sign two extra players in time.
He will first have to check with chairman Jim Little how much cash is available, but he has already been given the go ahead to pursue his "prime beef" transfer targets in principle.
The buys will come on the back of a takeover at the County Ground which was completed last week.
Sturrock knows he has to recruit quickly to maintain his team's lofty league position, but having garnered four points from their opening two fixtures the team is feeling positive.
"Obviously with new owners there's a lot to mull over in my mind. As far as the team is concerned there is more work to be done," the Robins manager commented.
Wycombe Wanderers frontman Jermaine Easter is rumoured to have caught his eye, but Sturrock will have to move fast to lure players to Wiltshire.
He has said he will look to the loan market if he can't secure the buys he wants.
The level of investment, however, will not be heavy, as Sturrock has insisted he will not pay over the odds just to boost squad numbers.
