Pakistan Back On Track
Wednesday 22 August 2007 at 16:10 After a turbulent year, the captain of Pakistan's cricket team has said that his squad is well drilled and ready for next month's Twenty20 World Cup.
Shoaib Malik said: "I am satisfied with the way the players are training and they have given me their support all the time, which is all I want. We have had three training camps in Pakistan."
Doubts had stalked the squad after the mysterious death of Bob Woolmer brought tension and contributed to a disappointing World Cup.
There were also rumours of a row between players and senior administrators, on top of the defection of Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq and Imran Farhat to the Indian Cricket League.
But the new coach, former Australian test fast bowler Geoff Lawson, brushed aside claims of panic in the team, saying: "Whatever happens, the players who turn up will count for me and not the ones who go and do something else."
Lawson, who received a personal letter of reassurance from Woolmer's widow, arrived yesterday to start final preparations for next month's inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.
