Burnley Should Jump, Says Unsworth
Wednesday 22 August 2007 at 16:59 Burnley will be moving up into the Premiership if new signing David Unsworth has got anything to do with it.
The former Everton defender has said he would be disappointed if Burnley didn't push for the promotion at the end of this season because he believes the squad is strong enough to make the jump.
The 33-year-old certainly has Premiership quality himself, having fended off approaches from one Premier League and two Championship clubs in order to fulfil his 12-month deal with the Clarets which was settled in the first week if the season.
"This is a big club," said Unsworth, after making his Burnley debut in the Carling Cup win at Grimsby last week.
"The potential here is huge, the fanbase is big, the redevelopment ... everything is gearing up in the background for us to be successful on the pitch."
Unsworth knows what the transition means - he put away a crucial penalty for his previous club Wigan Athletic, stopping them from slipping the other way before being released at the end of last season.
His gushing confidence will increase trade on a Burnley promotion.
