Status Quo Rules At Newcastle
Thursday 23 August 2007 at 17:23 Despite rumours, Sam Allardyce has said that Newcastle United have not been approached by Manchester United regarding Obafemi Martins.
It looks like the Nigeriran international will be staying put as Allardyce claims no other club has made enquiries, which he doesn't expect to change before the transfer window closes on Friday week.
The £13 million get-out clause Newcastle published this summer for the player seems to have left ManU and everyone else unmoved, proving the rumour mill seriously wrong.
It means Newcastle may be shy of some cash, but Allardyce seems not to mind.
"It'll be a source of comfort and relief when the window closes because from a manager's point of view it means no one can take your player any more," he reflected.
The same is true of Michael Owen.
Although not 100 per cent, he has potential to regain form this season and won't be going anywhere because his get-out clause has terms preventing his sale in the remainder of this window.
