Support Up Front For Van Persie
Friday 24 August 2007 at 10:59 A move to 4-4-2 formation will give Robin van Persie more chances at goal and should increase trade on him becoming the Premiership's top goalscorer.
The Arsenal frontman has so far been left isolated as team mates Emmanuel Adebayor and Eduardo Da Silva have spent the early part of the season on the treatment table.
But Wenger has admitted that playing a lone forward is not his game: "I cannot isolate Robin van Persie up there the whole year. It does not work on a longer period. "It can work in some games but it cannot be the basis of your game. You need two strikers."
Wenger made the call despite other players like Alexander Hleb and Tomas Rosicky showing willingness to play down the middle.
Van Persie is currently sharing the same odds as Didier Drogba for the hallowed achievement of top goalscorer, although some bookies have put Drogba shorter.
However, a supporting forward will help open up more opportunites, boosting his chances at beating Drogba and causing odds to come in, so bet now.
