Ruddock: Wales Will Make Comeback
Friday 24 August 2007 at 16:32
Wales could surprise sceptical punters in their clash with all-conquering France on Sunday, according to former coach Mike Ruddock.
If he's right, now is the time to take advantage of the well priced odds before they come in.
The 2005 Grand Slam-winning coach said: "[After losing to England] they have moved on superbly and got a result and I think they should be applauded for that."
He was referring to the match against Argentina last week in which Wales showed the quality they are capable of to win 27-20.
Ruddock also threw doubt over France's consistency: "They are one team you never know about. Even now, in the professional era, they went to Scotland in 2006 and got beaten and they went to Twickenham last season and got beaten."
But while France have enjoyed two victories over England in consecutive weeks, just four wins in 15 internationals has put the current Welsh coach, Gareth Jenkins, under mounting pressure.
However, he remains confident: "We have undergone in-depth analysis of our performance against Argentina with a view to improving ourselves against France... [and] have reached a point as a team where we are ready to meet this type of challenge."
The absence of French centre David Marty, who will sit out the match because of a calf injury, will also help Wales.
