England Will Play Fearless Cricket
Tuesday 28 August 2007 at 11:32 England captain Paul Collingwood is overseeing a renaissance of confidence in his squad, making victory in the seven-day series with India ever-surer.
He toasted England's new-found fearless attitude yesterday after India were beaten by 42 runs at Edgbaston.
England stacked up 281 for eight and fielded well to take the victory despite missing Andrew Flintoff, a key all-rounder who remains injured, and Dimitri Mascarenhas, who jarred his thumb in the warm-up.
The win puts England 2-1 up in the series and means that Collingwood has won half of his six one-day internationals, creating an air of confidence about the team which proved elusive during the World Cup.
"We have always said the best way to play one-day cricket is with a fearless attitude - it is getting filtered into our bloodstream - but it is still early doors, there are only three games gone so we wont get too carried away," said a bubbly Collingwood.
Chris Tremlett returned to produce a double strike which proved crucial, which Collingwood celebrated: "What you have seen today is that he's got the character to bounce back.
"We had a lot of faith in him, he didn't start off too well but came back and got those really important wickets at an important time."
Punters are expected to pile in as a result of the sudden can-do attitude, so bet now on England dominating the series before odds come in further.
