Milan Get Easy Champions League Draw
Friday 31 August 2007 at 10:11 AC Milan look set to breeze through the group stage of the Champions League after being handed an easy draw yesterday.
They have been placed in group D with Benfica, Celtic and Shakhtar Donetsk, none of which will pose the defending champions a serious problem, reducing the risk factor for wagers on them keeping the European title.
"It's certainly a manageable group," said AC Milan organizing director Umberto Gandini. "Taking everything into account, Milan should be able to qualify."
Meanwhile, top contenders Manchester United have more to worry about. Their passage will be hampered by Dynamo Kiev and old quarterfinal rivals AS Roma.
But while Milan's Champions League prospects look good, there are doubts about their Super Cup clash against Sevilla tonight, after goalkeeper Dida suffered a shoulder injury yesterday.
The Brazilian had played well during the pre-season and in the first league game against Genoa, and his loss will expose Milan at the back.
As it stands, though, the problem shows no signs of being long term, so don't be put off what is at the moment a good price in the Champions League win market.
