Honolulu Is Early Favourite For St Leger
Thursday 13 September 2007 at 15:32
Ten horses will line up for the St Leger on Saturday and early backing is going to Honolulu.
The horse is one of four in the race trained by Aidan O'Brien and is currently available at a price of 9/4 with Bet365.
Honolulu recently finished second to Purple Moon in the Ebor Handicap at York.
O'Brien's other horses in the race are Macarthur, Mahler and Acapulco with ante post odds to win of 6/1, 7/1 and 14/1 respectively.
Another two O'Brien horses - Soldier Of Fortune and Song Of Hiawatha - were withdrawn today at the final declaration stage.
Sir Michael Stoute believes the field is relatively open this year and is therefore hoping his supplementary entry Regal Flush can give him his first St Leger win in 26 years of trying.
Punters see Regal Flush's chances as average the horse has been placed at sixth favourite with odds of 10/1.
Samuel (with odds of 25/1), Celestial Halo (50/1), Veracity (12/1), Lucarno (7/2), and stablemate Raincoat (9/1) complete the line-up.
Looking at the jockeys, winner of the past two St Leger races Frankie Dettori is currently without a ride but it is thought he could take out Veracity as Sheikh Mohammed owns the horse and retains the jockey.
