Where Now For Mourinho?
Thursday 20 September 2007 at 12:15 Now that Jose 'the special one' Mourinho has left Chelsea and is a free agent, speculation is rife about which club he will take charge of next.
Ladbrokes has opened a book on where Mourinho will next take his forthright opinions and undoubted managerial talent.
Barcelona is priced as the joint favourite on 3/1 but it is hard to see the club accepting Mourinho after the public bust up in the Champions league.
Other teams in the running include Real Madrid on 7/1, though they just hired Bernd Schuster in June, and Juventus also on 7/1, but they also have a new mananger this year in the form of former Blues boss Claudio Ranieri.
Benfica, Inter Milan and Sevilla are outside bets at 12/1, as are AC Milan and his former club Porto on 16/1.
There is speculation he could lead his country as Luis Phillipe Scolari is set to leave the post and so the chance is priced at 7/2. There are even some rumours he could fill Steve McClaren's shoes and lead England, but this seems unlikely and expensive on 12/1.
Perhaps the most likely destination, and joint favourite at 3/1, is a cross London move to Tottenham.
Spurs manager Martin Jol is under intense pressure after Saturday's 3-1 defeat at home to Arsenal and the Tottenham board had talks with Mourinho before he left Porto for Chelsea.
Mourinho has made no secret either of his love for London (where his family has settled) or for the style of Spurs' play.
However, if that's not convincing enough, a wild bet of 20/1 is available on The Special One taking on the task of winning over the support of arch rivals Manchester United.
