Ireland Hoping To Defeat Impregnable Argentine Defence
Wednesday 26 September 2007 at 16:04 Ireland will be without full-back Girvan Dempsey when they meet Argentina in their final group match on Sunday.
The news will be a boost for Argentina who are currently priced at 8/15 with SkyBet to win the match with Ireland priced at 6/4 and the draw at 18/1.
In place of Dempsey Geordan Murphy is called-up for his first World Cup start and Denis Hickie replaces Andrew Trimble on the left wing.
"Geordan would have been included in the back three anyway - he has the kind of attacking edge we need this weekend," coach Eddie O'Sullivan told the BBC.
"The roles are reversed with Denis (Hickie) in for Andrew (Trimble).
"The selections from last week and for this week were based on what we were expecting from France and now Argentina. It was a tight selection call between them."
The match will be a tough one for Ireland as they need to score four or more tries against Argentina and beat them by more than seven points. The chance of Ireland achieving that and winning by a margin of between six and ten points is priced at 7/1 with Paddy Power.
Meanwhile, the chances of Ireland scoring four or more tries is priced at 9/2.
However, Argentina have not yet conceded a try in the tournament and have had the fewest points scored against them so it looks like a big ask of the Irish.
