Cesarewitch Draw Worry For Samurai Way
Friday 19 October 2007 at 16:16 Samurai Way has received an unfavourable trap draw for Saturday's (October 20th) Cesarewitch at Newmrket, hitting the equines hopes of victory.
The five-year-old has been has been drawn in gate two, a bad omen considering that the last winner of the race form a single digit lane draw was Turnpole in 1997, the Racing Post reports.
And responding to the draw, the odds on the horse have been lengthened, with Bet365 offering 5/1 for the one time 4/1 favourite and Boylesports offering 11/2.
Admitting that the draw was a cause for concern, Luca Cumani, trainer of the charge, told the publication: "In theory, the draw shouldn't matter, but the statistics show that it does.
"I'm no expert - I've had only one runner in this race - but the experts tell me a low draw is bad news and that I should be worried about it, so I've started to worry about it.
"I will worry about it for the next two days, then pass the worry on to the jockey ."
But in cautious optimism, he added:"He relaxes well, and is a straightforward ride. He looks well and has been working well, and I am looking forward to Saturday. I'm hoping the ground dries out."
Fair Along is slight favourite for the race with Totesport and Stan James both shortening its odds to 11/2.
