Hamilton Sports Personality Odds Lengthen Following Title Loss
Monday 22 October 2007 at 16:30 Lewis Hamilton's second place finish in the Formula One Drivers Championship has caused his odds of winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year to lengthen.
The Briton finished a disappointing seventh place allowing Kimi Raikkonen to claim the crown despite trailing for mist of the season.
And the 22-year-old has seen his chances of winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award slide, with his odds being lengthened to 2/9 with Sky Bet and 1/5 with both Coral and Canbet.
It will be further bad news for the Brit, who seemed disappointed at surrendering a title that looked like his for much of the championship.
Trying to remain upbeat Hamilton told the BBC: "Who'd have thought I'd be ranked number two in my first year of Formula One?"
"There was nothing we could do, we did the best job we could, the team did a phenomenal job all year."
He added: "I finished second in the world championship. I beat my team-mate under extremely difficult circumstances. I beat the two-time world champion. That was the goal.
"Who would have thought I would be leading the world championship going into the last race?"
However, Hamilton remains favourite to land the BBC award, while Ricky Hatton is second favourite priced at 4/1 with both Coral and Blue Square.
