Torres Out Of Turkish Encounter
Tuesday 23 October 2007 at 11:03 Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will miss the Champions League clash with Besiktas due to a thigh injury.
The Spanish centre forward has been in sparkling form this season and following the Merseyside club's defeat at home to Marseille they will need all three points at the Inonu.
And Liverpool, despite their poor start to their Champions League campaign, are 8/11 favourites to win the game with Ladbrokes, Coral and Bet365 but are outsiders to claim the trophy at 17/1 with Bet Fred.
The withdrawal of Torres will be especially disappointing for Reds manager Rafa Benitez, who had been hopeful of his inclusion, and who may also be without influential midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The bearded Spaniard said: "They were both very, very close to playing. It would have been a risk I was not prepared to take to play them against Everton.
"I would now expect them to be in serious contention against Besiktas when we go to Istanbul (on Wednesday). I will watch them in training and make my decision after that." It looks like the decision has been taken out of his hands.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are favourites to retain their European crown and are priced at 4/1 with Stan James and Sky Bet.
