Scorpion And Mahler Ready For Melbourne Cup
Thursday 25 October 2007 at 10:00 Stablemates Scorpion and Mahler are both ready and raring to go for the Melbourne Cup, Andrew Murphy has claimed.
The travelling foreman, who works for the Aidan O'Brien stable, has seen the duo in action and appears confident that they can perform well down-under.
But with the odds of victory for Scorpion at 12/1 with Boyle Sports and Blue Square and Mahler slightly shorter at 10/1 with Stan James and NP Bet it will take a sterling performance to peg back pre-race favourite Master O'Reilly who is at 9/2 with Coral.
Commenting on prospects of the equines, Murphy said: "They've both done great. hey are both very straightforward horses. Scorpion can be ridden anywhere. He can make the running; he can be ridden off the pace."
He added: "As the week goes on they will start going a bit faster."
Meanwhile, champion jockey Damien Oliver will be riding English horse Purple Moon for the Melbourne Cup. The rider will have an excellent chance of victory with his charge second favourite at 11/2 with Bet Direct and NP Bet.
