Knee Injury Rules Hargreaves Out Of Austria Game
Wednesday 14 November 2007 at 16:07 Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for Friday's (November 16th) friendly against Austria in Vienna.
Hargreaves joins a growing list of absentees, with club team-mates Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney both set to miss the match, alongside Chelsea captain John Terry.
Despite the loss of the midfielder, England remain clear favourites for the game against one of the hosts of next season's Euro 2008 competition, with Austria an outside bet at 4/1 with bet365 to beat Steve McLaren's men.
Announcing the news of Hargreaves' withdrawal, an FA spokesman said: "Owen Hargreaves is recovering from a long-term injury.
"Having discussed it with Manchester United, it was felt he should remain in Manchester for treatment until the weekend - with the emphasis on his fitness for the Croatia qualifier," he added.
With Hargreaves a doubt for next Wednesday's (November 21st) vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia, odds of 7/4 are now available with Totesport that England will fail to qualify for next summer's finals.
