Harmison Heading To Sri Lanka
Monday 19 November 2007 at 15:44 England fast bowler Steve Harmison has passed a late fitness test and will be join up with the rest of the national squad in Sri Lanka, as they prepare for the first test match of the series.
Sri Lanka are favourites to win the first test match with odds of 11/10 from Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, while an England win is being offered at 11/4 and a draw at 7/4 from both bookmakers.
Totesport expects Sri Lanka to go on and win the series (8/11), and is also offering 13/5 for a drawn series and 3/1 for an England win.
Harmison was named as a standby player for the three match series because of concerns over his lack of match practice. The 29-year-old missed much of the international cricket season with a hernia problem, but has regained form in the last two weeks playing domestically in South Africa.
Totesport is offering 3/1 odds for either Michael Vaughan or Kevin Pieterson to emerge from the series as England's top batsman, while Ian Bell is rated at 7/2 and Alistair Cook at 9/2.
England will play a warm-up fixture against a Board President's XI in Colombo this week, before going on to face Sri Lanka in the first Test of the winter series on December 1st.
