Robinson And Beckham Miss Croatia Clash
Wednesday 21 November 2007 at 17:32 Paul Robinson and David Beckham have been dropped from the England starting XI ahead of the vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on Wednesday.
Head coach Steve McClaren is apparently ready to give a start between the posts to Aston Villa's Scott Carson, while David James is likely to be on the bench.
Chelsea midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips is likely to replace Beckham on the right, adding to a five-man midfield also including Gareth Barry, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Steven Gerard, in support of Peter Crouch as a lone-striker in an attacking 4-5-1 formation.
Although England lost 2-0 to Croatia last year in Zagreb, they are favourites to win at Wembley, with most bookmakers including Ladbrokes and William Hill offering odds of 4/7 on an England win. Paddy Power and Skybet, meanwhile, are offering 8/15 on an England win.
Those who think that the Croatians could still break English hearts and put them out of Euro 2008 can get odds of 7/1 from Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Totesport for a Croatia win.
Peter Crouch is favourite to score at any time during the game with 13/8 from Bet365 and 6/4 from Paddy Power, while Arsenal's Brazilian born striker Eduardo is considered Croatia's biggest goal threat, at 3/1 from BlueSquare and 4/1 from Paddy Power.
