Everton Odds Slide As They Rest First-teamers
Thursday 20 December 2007 at 08:53 Everton's decision to field an under-strength side in tonight's Uefa Cup clash with AZ Alkmaar has seen their odds of victory in the match lengthen.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard, defender Joseph Yobo, midfielders Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill and striker Yakubu are all set to be rested, with the Toffees already assured of top spot in Group A.
And with fringe players set to fill the void Everton are priced at 4/1 for victory with Paddy Power, with AZ rated at 4/7 with William Hill.
Everton manager David Moyes revealed that his intentions were to go for a win despite wanting to keep players fresh for the busy festive period.
He said: "My intention is for us to win four out of four games in the group stages but we need to be ready for the important period over Christmas.
"We want to keep the run that we are on just now going and we will have that in mind against Alkmaar."
"We are taking a few of the younger lads, so we can leave one or two aside but we still want to go out there and win," he added.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are the most likely British side to lift the Uefa Cup, according to the bookies, priced at 9/1 to win the competition with Blue Square.
