Chelsea Favourites Following Liverpool Exit
Thursday 20 December 2007 at 15:40 Chelsea are slight favourites to lift the Carling Cup after knocking Premier League title rivals Liverpool out of the competition last night (December 19th).
The west London side completed a 2-0 victory over the Merseysiders to claim a place in the semi-final of the competition against Everton.
The Blues are now priced at 13/8 with Ladbrokes to lift the trophy, while Arsenal, who defeated Blackburn in the quarter-finals, are rated at 9/4 with Stan James.
But under-pressure Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez claimed that his side were victim of a poor decision, when Peter Crouch was given his marching orders for a two-footed lunge on John Obi Mikel.
Benitez said: "It could be a sending off but I have seen more dangerous tackles and sometimes they are a yellow card or nothing.
"I am disappointed my team has lost but we played really well with 11 men. We passed the ball well and created good chances but they had a very good goalkeeper."
Meanwhile, Everton are the outsiders to win the Carling Cup, priced at 5/1 with Stan James. Tottenham are 9/2 with Sporting Bet.
