Dirty New York Giants Underdogs In NFC Championship Clash
Friday 18 January 2008 at 09:01 The New York Giants are underdogs for their NFC Championship match with the Green Bay Packers amidst allegations they are a 'dirty' side.
The Packers are odds-on favourites to make it to Superbowl XLII, rated at 1/3 with ToteSport, while their New York opponents are a 12/5 long shot with Sky Bet.
But rather than being able to focus on the clash, the Giants have been busy denying claims that they are overly aggressive.
Offensive coordinater for the Giants, Kevin Gilbride, claimed that the physical nature of his side is misunderstood.
He told the Reuters news agency: "The physicality, I'm very proud of, and it's something I'm glad we have.
"Any accusation of dirty tactics certainly sounds a little bit humorous because it's as far-fetched as I could ever imagine."
He added: "They're a hard-working, blue-collar group. They play the game from the beginning of the play until the whistle at the end. I don't see any dirty play from any of our guys."
Meanwhile, the Giants are also rated as a long-shot with the bookies to go all the way and take the Superbowl XLII title, priced at 16/1 with CentreBet.
