Last Gasp Muntari Improves Ghana Africa Nations Cup Odds
Monday 21 January 2008 at 09:05 A late goal from Sulley Muntari sealed a 2-1 victory for the hosts Ghana in their opening match with Guinea, boosting their chances of Africa Nations glory.
Following the Portsmouth player's last-gasp wonder goal, Ghana's odds of cup victory have shortened to 10/3 with Paddy Power.
Despite their win, Ghana coach Claude Le Roy has unhappy with the both the quality of the pitch and his side's finishing.
"In more than 20 years in Africa, it's the worst pitch I've ever seen," he said.
"We have a technical team which likes to play one-touch football and this pitch badly affected our game."
He added: "We created so many opportunities to score, scoring seems to be very complicated for us but it was a very good performance by the Black Stars."
"We were also unlucky in the first half when we hit the post three times. We know that the future will be very difficult because all the teams in this competition are very good teams."
Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast remain slight favourites to win the Africa Nations Cup, priced at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
