Djokovic Win Boosts Australian Open Odds
Monday 21 January 2008 at 12:06 Novak Djokovic boosted his chances of winning the Australian Open by knocking home hero Lleyton Hewitt out of the competition.
The Serbian, ranked three in the world, is now rated at 9/2 with Paddy Power and BetFred to emerge from the tournament victorious.
Djokovic eventually triumphed 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 to set up a quarter-final with Spain's David Ferrer.
Delighted with the win, the third seed revealed that he had to put his nerves behind him to beat the Australian.
"I was very nervous before this match because I know that Lleyton is a fighter but there was a lot of pressure on him," he said.
"He made a couple of unforced errors and he was very tired and exhausted from the [Marcos] Baghdatis match a few nights ago, so I used my opportunity," he added.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal remains second favourite to claim his first Australian Open crown, priced at 4/1 with CentreBet, Roger Federer remains the odds-on favourite at 8/13 with Sky Bet.
