Venables Favourite To Become Next Ireland Manager
Monday 21 January 2008 at 14:54 Former England manager Terry Venables is the favourite to become the next manger of the Republic of Ireland.
With reports claiming that Gerard Houllier has ruled himself out of the running, Venables is now the 4/5 odds-on front runner with William Hill.
And while the FAI decide who the next manager will be, Ireland's senior players are becoming increasingly frustrated with the delay.
Goalkeeper Shay Given revealed his belief that the new man should have been in charge in time to help decide the order of the World Cup qualifiers.
The Newcastle stopper told the Irish Independent:"I thought it would have been done by now. The World Cup games were decided the other day, so I really felt the manager should have been in charge for that.
"That's not been the case for whatever reason, we don't know, but the sooner we get him in, the better,'' he added.
Meanwhile, following the apparent withdrawal of Houllier as a candidate, Kenny Dalglish's odds have been shortened to 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
