Ivory Coast Shorten Africa Nations Odds
Tuesday 22 January 2008 at 14:14 Ivory Coast secured a 1-0 victory against Nigeria in Africa Nation's Group B clash, improving their chances of winning the competition.
The Ivorians are now the favourites to win the competition, rated at 11/4 with Coral, after a Salomon Kalou strike helped his side claim all three points.
Manager of the Ivory Coast, Gerard Gili, was delighted with the professional performance against a quality side.
He said: "It's a good start. The players worked well. We have to continue like that.
"Nigeria aren't just a good team, they're a very good team, without any weaknesses. The two sides were evenly matched," he added.
And Nigeria coach Berti Vogts was gracious in defeat, looking forward to Friday's (January 25th) clash with Mali, he said: "We lost the first match in 2006 and we went on to qualify for the quarter-finals, but we'll have too play better against Mali.
"We lost to a very good team today and a cracker of a goal," he added.
Meanwhile host nation Ghana remain second favourites at 3/1 with Bet365.
