Ivanovic To Meet Sharapova In Australian Open Final
Thursday 24 January 2008 at 09:17 Serbia's Ana Ivanovic will face Russia's Maria Sharapova in the final of the Australian Open.
Ivanovic rallied after losing the first set in her match against Daniela Hantuchova, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Sharapova eased to victory in her tie with Jelena Jankovic, 6-3, 6-1.
And with Sharapova in fantastic form she is now the bookies' favourite to be crowned the Australian Open champion, priced at 1/4 on with Party Bets.
Delighted to be in the final the Russian hailed the fighting spirit of her opponent.
"As everyone knows Jelena plays very well when she's behind. But I'm really pleased that I'm back in the final," she said.
Ivanovic, who had a tougher contest in her semi-final, revealed that the key to her successful fight back was retaining composure.
"Daniela's a tough player and I knew I had to go for my shots early in the rally and it was frustrating because I couldn't make any, she was playing really well," she said.
"I tried to stay calm as much as I could but obviously it wasn't easy," she added. Meanwhile, world number two Rafael Nadal is the firm favourite to beat the emerging Jo Wilfried Tsonga in their semi-final clash today (January 24th), priced at 2/7 with Paddy Power.
