South Africa Draw Hits Africa Cup Of Nations Odds
Thursday 24 January 2008 at 15:03
South Africa had to rally late on to secure a 1-1 draw with Angola in their Africa Cup of Nations opener, hitting their odds of winning the competition.
South Africa's inability to turn chances into goals, and meeting Angolan 'keeper Joao Lama in great form, have seen their odds lengthen to 50/1 with Stan James.
The blow was softened with the news that Senegal had drawn 2-2 with Tunisia and South Africa's manager, Brazilian Carlos Alberta Perreira, praised his sides commitment during the match.
"We played with a very good spirit in the second half and that has given us hope for the next match," he said.
"We have a young team, and we were playing against a side with eight players with World Cup experience.'' Perreira added.
Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast are still the favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations, priced at 2/1 with Sky Bet.
