Djokovic Shock Victory Shortens Australian Open Odds
Friday 25 January 2008 at 16:50 Novak Djokovic swept to a shock straight sets victory over Roger Federer to claim a place in the Australian Open final.
The Serbian produced some of his best tennis to claim a 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory over the world number one to shorten his odds to 1/3 with Better to beat Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the final.
Delighted that his good form has been rewarded with a place in the final, the 20-year-old third seed said: "I am just very amazed I coped with the pressure today. In the most important moments, I played my best tennis.
"It's just amazing, indescribable, to beat the number one player in the world, one of the best players this sport has ever had, in straight sets."
Federer's defeat means that he will not make a Grand Slam for the first time in eleven attempts.
Meanwhile, Maria Sharopova is the odds on favourite to win the women's title, rated at 1/6 with Stan James.
