Senegal Africa Nations Cup Odds Lengthen After Angola Defeat
Monday 28 January 2008 at 09:01 Minnows Angola produced an excellent performance to topple Senegal 3-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday (January 27th).
The loss has sent shockwaves through the Senegalese camp with Polish coach Henri Kasperczak handing in his resignation with the team on the brink of elimination.
Senegal, a 66/1 shot with Blue Square, have been left with the daunting task of having to beat South Africa to be in with a chance of making the second phase.
Following the defeat, Kasperczak revealed his disappointment in the side's performance.
"In the first half we were committed, strong and reliable, but in the second half Angola's goal hit my players mentally," he said.
"We knew before that if we lost this we'd still have a chance of qualifying, but it's going to be tough against South Africa," he added.
Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast remain the hot favourites to win the lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy, rated at 15/8 with Paddy Power.
