England One-day Series Odds Dip After Humiliating Defeat
Tuesday 12 February 2008 at 09:16 England's chances of claiming victory in their one-day series against New Zealand suffered a blow after they slumped to an embarrassing defeat in Hamilton.
The match, the second in the series, was reduced to 36 overs aside after a rain delay and New Zealand eased to their revised target of 165 to win by ten wickets.
With the home side now 2-0 up in the series, the odds of an England victory is now at 5/1 with Ladbrokes.
England started brightly with Alistair Cook and Phil Mustard hitting 41 off the first six overs and with the tourists at 90-2 they looked on course to record a competitive a total.
But the New Zealand bowlers battled back, and with some unimpressive batting, England were skittled for just 158.
The Kiwis had their target revised to 165 and took just 18 overs to claim a dominant win, with Jesse Ryder (79) and Brendan McCullum (80), seeing their side home with plenty of balls to spare.
With three games remaining New Zealand are the overwhelming 1/8 favourites, with Better, to win the series.
