Clooney Talks Up Day-Lewis Oscar Odds
Friday 22 February 2008 at 12:18 George Clooney has backed Daniel Day-Lewis to scoop the Best Actor Oscar for his role in There Will Be Blood.
Day-Lewis is the overwhelming favourite to pick up the coveted accolade, rated at 1/12 with Ladbrokes.
And Clooney revealed that, without Day-Lewis in the running, he would have a had a good chance of picking up the prize himself.
The Michael Clayton star told Time magazine: "There is no way Daniel Day-Lewis won't win,"
"For me, it's like being Hillary Clinton. If it weren't for Barack Obama, it would have been a very good year."
He added: "If [Michael Clayton] has a shot at anything, it's best supporting actress with Tilda Swinton."
Clooney is the second favourite to win the Oscar, priced at 14/1 with Bet 365. The other nominees for the award are Johnny Depp (16/1 with Bet365) in Sweeny Todd, Viggo Mortensen (28/1 with BetInternet) in Eastern Promise and Tommy Lee Jones (100/1 with Lasseters) in In The Valley of Elah.
