Christie Prefers Quiet Life Despite Being Oscar Favourite
Friday 22 February 2008 at 16:59 Oscar nominee Julie Christie has revealed that she "cannot see the point in being high-profile" despite being tipped to be named Best Actress on Sunday (February 24th).
Christie is the overwhelming favourite to scoop her second Oscar, rated at 4/9 with Coral, for her role in Away From Her.
But despite her success, Christie is adamant that actors should prefer a life away from the limelight.
"I could never really see the point of being high-profile when I loathed it so much," she told the Western Mail.
"Every now and then, you can go to something like an Oscars ceremony, but nobody is holding a gun to your head.
She added: "The rules were the same 40 years ago as they are now. You can either choose the spotlight or stay at home."
"The film company wants you to look fantastic, and borrows clothes and diamonds from designers and jewellers for you to wear. I will not do that again. It is a pernicious pastime."
Meanwhile, Marion Cottillard is the bookies second choice to claim the best actress Oscar, priced at 8/5 with BetInternet for her role La Vie En Rose.
