Monty Sets Sights On Johnnie Walker Classic
Monday 25 February 2008 at 09:11 Colin Montgomerie has set his sights on a good performance at the Johnnie Walker Classic after a poor showing at the Accenture World Matchplay.
The Scot is rated at 14/1 with Bet Fair to claim the Classic after his defeat to Stewart Cink left him outside the world's top 50.
No longer among the global elite, Montgomerie will now have to secure ranking points to claim a place in the Masters, or keep his fingers crossed for an invitation, the Sunday Mirror reports.
Montgomerie's place in the next Ryder Cup side could also be slipping away as Europe captain Nick Faldo, who he implored to watch the tournament, must have been unimpressed with his performance.
Prior to his poor showing, Montgomerie said: "It's the only matchplay tournament we have before the Ryder Cup. If I was the captain I would have been watching the tournament very closely."
Meanwhile, Adam Scott is the early favourite to win the Johnnie Walker Classic, priced at 23/5 with BetFair.
