Aliadiere Ban Hits Middlesbrough FA Cup Odds
Wednesday 27 February 2008 at 08:48
The suspension of Jeremie Aliadiere has hit Middlesbrough's chances of beating Sheffield United in their FA Cup fifth round replay tonight (February 27th).
But with Middlesbrough having home advantage against their Championship opponents, they are still priced at 4/7 on with Sporting Bet.
The Teesiders had appealed against the French striker's ban, received after he was sent off in the Premier League against Liverpool, and were furious after the FA decided to add an extra game to the three-match suspension after the appeal was deemed frivolous.
Following the decision, an angry Keith Lamb, Boro's chief executive, said: "There is one rule for the big boys and another for the rest of us."
"It is a disgraceful comment to suggest our claim was frivolous. We agonised over it before deciding to submit a claim for wrongful dismissal.
He added: "The Oxford Dictionary definition of frivolous is, 'not serious, shallow, silly or trifling', while in fact we spent more than two days considering whether or not to appeal."
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough are third favourites to win the FA Cup, rated at 12/1 with CanBet.
