Denman Could Upset Cheltenham Gold Cup Odds And Beat Kauto Star
Wednesday 27 February 2008 at 12:12 Clive Smith, owner of Kauto Star, believes that Denman could provide stiff competition for his horse in the up-coming Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Currently Kauto Star is the favourite to win the race, rated at 11/10 with Paddy Power, while stablemate Denman is priced at 5/4 with Better.
And Smith claimed that Denman could provide a credible challenge to his charge, despite his outstanding form.
"It will be his [Kauto Star's] biggest test, but then I think he's better than ever," he told the BBC.
"He's come on since last season. He's stronger and I think he's good enough to win. He's probably not really been stretched yet - he will be this time."
"I think he can come up to the test and do his stuff," he added.
Meanwhile, Denman's co-owner, Paul Barber, revealed his belief that Denman is capable of pulling off an upset.
"You're going to need to be a very, very good horse to beat Kauto Star and I just hope and think he is," he told the broadcaster.
Meanwhile, Exotic Dancer is third favourite to claim the Cheltenham Gold Cup, rated at 20/1 with Coral.
