Alonso: Hamilton Could Win F1 Title
Thursday 28 February 2008 at 18:19 Formula One driver Fernando Alonso believes that Lewis Hamilton has what it takes to win the F1 title in only his second season of professional racing.
The Spanish maestro, who had an intense rivalry with Hamilton at McLaren last term, said that the young Brit, 23, will find his second season much easier and added that one year's experience may be all that the youngster needs to win the Championship this time round.
Hamilton is currently 3/1 to win the Championship with SportingBet, behind Kimi Raikkonen, who is the favourite with odds of 6/4. The best odds for Felipe Massa are 11/2 with Boylesports, while Stan James is offering odds at 10/1 for Alonso to emerge victorious.
Speaking to the BBC, Alonso said: "After one year's experience, things become easier and that will give him an advantage.
"After a year, you know all the circuits and how the races go. You understand the pressures so there are many things that will give him an advantage compared to last year."
Last season, Hamilton led the pack going into the last two races, but ultimately took second behind Kimi Raikkonen. For all his rivalry with Alonso, who returned to Renault this year, the two drivers finished tied on points.
