England Test Match Odds Dip Following First Test Display
Tuesday 11 March 2008 at 13:21 England's lacklustre performance in the first test against New Zealand last week has dented their chances of winning the three match test series.
The touring side are now rated at 6/4, with SkyBet, to win the second test, which starts tomorrow (March 12th) and 4/1 with Ladbrokes to stage a comeback and win the series.
And New Zealand bowler Chris Martin has claimed that England's poor form was due to a lack of self-confidence.
"They are a fair-weather type team in a way," he told the BBC. "Once they get a few wickets under their belt the chat comes out and the usual culprits are there."
Claiming that Pietersen's recent lack of belief typified plight of the England team, he continued: "I think he felt the pressure at 30-3 and perhaps I ruffled him with a short one. His feet didn't really go anywhere after that.
"I suppose he'll come out a little bit more confident in this game, but it's up to me to deal him the same sort of deliveries that I gave him in the last game.
He added: "He's definitely a confidence type player and it was nice to see that missing a little bit missing in the last game."
The Kiwis are now the 2/1 favourites with CanBet to win the test match series.
