Quinn Confident In Blythe King Despite Lincoln Handicap Odds
Tuesday 18 March 2008 at 08:55 John Quinn, trainer of racehorse Blythe King, is confident his charge will run well in the Lincoln Handicap despite his long odds.
The King is priced at 25/1 with Ladbrokes, way behind frontrunner Zaahid, a 6/1 shot with Coral.
And despite finishing down the field in the Champion Hurdle in the Cheltenham Festival Quinn feels that the horse can make an improvement on flat ground on March 22nd.
"He's probably better on the flat than over hurdles. After he won so well at Aintree last year we thought yes, maybe," Quinn told the Independent.
And claiming that jockey Dougie Costello eased up after victory looked unlikely at Cheltenham, he added: "We were happy to let him take his chance in the Champion Hurdle, but once it was clear he wasn't going to be placed Dougie looked after him.
"He got bogged down in the mud, but even if the ground is soft at Doncaster on Saturday, Flat soft isn't like jumping soft and it should be fine. In fact, it will play to his strength, which is stamina."
Blythe King will have fond memories of his time in Lincoln after winning the Handicap at the racecourse two years ago.
